Abiotic Factors
The water of Lake Nyos releases its carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide released stays close to the ground, because carbon dioxide is denser than oxygen. The air becomes poisonous to living things that need oxygen to survive. After the eruption the lake then forms a red layer on the top which is the iron release from the bottom of the lake. Light was blocked temporarily by the cloud of carbon dioxide and also in the water by the iron release.
