Nutrient Cycles
Water Cycle-The water of Lake Nyos had released 80 million cubic meters of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide had been held at the bottom of the lake. After the carbon had been released, iron, which was also at the bottom, came to the top. The iron gave the top of the lake a red layer. The red unfamiliar color likely stopped animals and humans from drinking the water. This also can cause death since humans and most animals need water to survive.
Carbon Cycle – The carbon dioxide is pushed closer to the ground, because carbon dioxide is denser than oxygen. The breathable oxygen is then pushed higher. The biotic things around the area are not able to reach the oxygen that had been pushed higher into the atmosphere. Most of these biotic things suffocate, because they cannot use the oxygen which is no longer close to the ground. This ruins the flow of the carbon cycle (ruins the balance of carbon and oxygen which keeps living things alive).
