Lake Nyos Limnic Eruption suffocated all living things within 15 miles of Lake Nyos. Over 1,746 people suffocated due to the carbon dioxide released into the air. Over 3,000 cattle also suffocated due to the release of carbon. This caused a decrease in the population in both the humans and animals. The abiotic factors could not get away from the carbon dioxide gas. The gas cloud was very fast, releasing 1.2 cubic kilometers of carbon dioxide in roughly 20 seconds. Plants began to die too. They were receiving too much carbon.
Since the population decreased by thousands, the food webs activity stopped almost completely around the lake. The population around the lake was almost completely wiped out by the carbon dioxide cloud.
The file below shows the food web of the area. The bottom plants including bamboo, grass, and canopy trees are producers. The producers get their energy from the sun. The animals are all consumers.
